Originally built in the Edwardian era as an Art Deco showpiece, the Strand Palace Hotel has been carefully modernised yet retains its imposing facade. The spacious lobby is appointed in an impressive style, with marble floors, wood panelling and plentiful seating. It also boasts the unusual feature of several on-site shops. The 783 comfortable guestrooms are spread over nine floors. Options include standard single, double and twin bedrooms. Non-smoking and interconnecting rooms are also available on request. Some guests have reported that the guestrooms vary markedly in quality, but in general they feature soothing, neutral décor, complemented by crisp bed linens and dark wood furniture. Given that the hotel is so large, guests will find a floor plan when they exit the lifts on each accommodation floor to help them locate their room.
The hotel boasts a variety of dining options. The stylish “372 Restaurant” offers the original English Carvery buffet. A limited 'a la carte' menu of grills and stir-fry is also available here. “Johnson’s Restaurant” is a lively split-level venue serving a combination of modern international cuisine. The “Mask Bar” is the perfect place to enjoy an exotic cocktail or a warming single-malt, while the “Hops! Bar” is a lively venue with a large screen television showing sporting events.
